The above pic is a few bright red Snow Plants in the Little Boulder Grove. It was a good year for them.
I got the opportunity last weekend to take my friend Chris (who had not been to it yet) into the Little Boulder Grove, and it inspired me to do a bit more measuring in there. I wandered a bit and measured 4 more trees that i have not yet gotten around to. I didn't find anything bigger than the two i have already done based on Flint's directions, but i did find a couple more in the approx 20k volume range.
There were a lot of the above Snow Plants wherever we seemed to wander that weekend, both in Little Boulder and elsewhere. I saw one group of 16 of them all in one place within about 6 feet of each other in this grove, i don't think i have ever seen that many concentrated so closely before.
I also noticed a lot of youngling sequioas coming up in droves within the grove. Some of the young ones that sprouted after the fire a few years ago are still doing well in there also, but there are some areas where its just a carpet of new yearling trees coming up. It is always encouraging to see new growth doing well in the groves.
Here are specs on the two ~20k trees in the grove that i measured this trip:
