#89 Double Flying Buttress Tree, Nelder Grove
The Double Flying Buttress Tree in Nelder Grove is 24.4 feet in diameter at the ground, 21.7 feet diameter at chest height, and 241 feet tall. It has had a couple of destructive burns in its history. Prior to the Railroad Fire, it had been burned to the point that it had cavities under the bark on two of its sides. The cavities got larger in the 2017 fire. The two flying buttresses made of the tree's bark layer remind me of a loose suit coat draped around its heartwood.
