This tree is 19.1 feet in diameter level at the high side ground, 16.5 feet DBH, 69 ft in circumference, and 227 feet tall. While not home to any record-breaking champion-sized trees, the East Fork section of Atwell Grove has a large percentage of just under 20-foot monarch trees in its environs. This tree is up on a rare flat spot above the east fork of the river well off trail, and it is presently the largest tree I have measurements for in the grove. It is a beautiful example of the species, with upward spiraling bark, only a small burn on the lower side of its base, and the typical soaring dead spire outreaching its topmost crown of foliage by a dozen feet.
