Great trip to the Giant Forest—an unsurpassed grove with many really big trees. We spent two days walking the trails and saw nine trees on Flint’s Top 40 list; that’s an incredible score I don’t expect to equal in any other grove. There simply aren’t any groves with as many champion-size trees as this one. These two days of exploring puts us just over halfway through his Top 40 list. All the trees we saw were really easy to identify, and even the ones off the paths were only slightly off trail and not hard to find. In the one or two instances that the trees were not obviously identifiable, my trusty 100-foot tape measure confirmed I had the right ones.

• #4 Lincoln
• #8 Franklin
• #10 Monroe
• #12 John Adams (#12 from Flint's book; #13 now)
• #26 Chief Sequoyah (#26 from Flint's book; #27 now)
• #29 Hamilton (aka NTT, Near Triple Tree) (#29 from Flint's book; #32 now)
• #34 Cleveland (#34 from Flint's book; #36 now)

 
Amazingly, there are a few more really large trees in this grove that I have yet to see, a bit farther off trail. I will have to come back to look some more for them soon.
