#58 Black Mountain Beauty, Black Mountain Grove
The Black Mountain Beauty Tree is nearly 21.5 feet in diameter level at the high side ground, just over 18.5 feet diameter at chest height, and presently 219 feet tall. It survived a strong fire in 2017 and sustained some damage to its top; however, the lower bole came through undamaged. Thus its volume only went down a small amount and it lost just a few places on the largest list. It does have a huge burn cavity at about 150 feet up its height, and I will be looking to see how long the two remaining walls of the cavity will be able to support the top third of the tree over the next few winters.
It was originally noticed and measured by Flint in 1986, and he called it a gorgeous specimen with abundant foliage. It's no longer the beauty it used to be; however, it is still standing.
