#18 Alder Creek Giant, Alder Creek
The Alder Creek Giant Tree is 25.1 feet in diameter level at the high ground point, 21.7 feet diameter at chest height, and 268.5 feet tall. It was probably taller and slightly larger prior to the 2020 Castle Fire. I heard about it from Sue Cag who lives up in the Alder Creek grove and noticed it first, identifying it as a champion candidate; she was right. I measured it right after the 2020 fire, and judging by the mounds of debris on the ground, it lost a lot of top and branches from that confligration. It lost its center stem above where two branches take off, so they will become its new leaders. I wish I had seen it before the fire damage when sue first discovered it, it would place even higher on the list.
